The Chapel and the Community
There is seating in the pews for under four hundred persons; additional chairs can bring the seating capacity to just over seven hundred. The simple beauty of the Chapel annually draws scores of members of the University community (graduates, staff, students, affiliated institutions to exchange marriage vows there, or to hold funerals/memorial services, and baptism of infants.
The institutions affiliated in some way with the University - the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI), the University Hospital (UHWI) and its Schools of Nursing and Physiotherapy, Hope Valley Experimental Primary School (build to accommodate a percentage of physically handicapped children), celebrate their graduations with Valedictory Services in the Chapel.
The Jamaica Association of French Teachers (which is administered from the Department of Modern Languages at UWI, Mona) brings children from some of the preparatory and high schools in the Corporate Area (Kingston and St. Andrew) to the annual French Carol Service on the third Friday in December.
